Designed by Ben van Berkel / UNStudio, the new capital city of Raffles City is a sustainable urban center for housing, career and leisure located in Hangzhou, surely considered one of the most picturesque cities in China. He papered the eighth upgrade of Raffles City in China.
Located in the new city of Qianjiang, near the Qiantang River, this improvement in combined use will become a main reference point next to the inexperienced axis of the new metropolis CBD. A rich mix of 24/7 features occupies about 400,000 m2 inside profiled towers installed on a podium and a landscaped plaza.
Designed as an active vertical neighborhood and public transport hub with good prospects over the river and Lake West areas, the 60-story, 250-meter high-rise skyscrapers include residential units, category A offices,
Capital of Zhejiang province, the metropolis is steeped in subculture so you know the destination.
Situated 50 minutes away through an overspeed education from Shanghai, Hangzhou has proven to be a currency powerhouse within China these days as a robust tech sector. While the metropolis’ historical past makes a specialty of the picturesque Western Lake classified as historic by UNESCO, its fate donates to a new monetary, political and cultural center oriented closer to the river. Hangzhou is a moving metropolis, with strong destination goals, especially in terms of sustainability, economic system and quality of life.
Considering the influence of urbanization around the world, UNStudio asked: How can we use a dense, combined program in the framework of an improvement focused on public transport to boost sustainable housing and improve first-class quality of life?
Mixed Use: Healthy Cities

The construction is designed with a mix of carefully considered programs – such as those discovered in an excellent metropolis – that collectively carry a great variety of users. Landscape
Informed by the famous plant-based panorama of the metropolis, the UNStudio layout creates a neighborhood ID for Raffles City, while celebrating its “metropolis inside a metropolis concept” trademark. Reflecting the movement inside the river, the layout of the tower allows movement like a wave. These concentric waves explode from their dynamism, starting uniformly at the bottom and building more strongly along the vertical axis. These formal expressions have allowed us to link the extended type of programs throughout the construction in a continuous flow.
Design gives the male or female panorama of this inexperienced metropolis. Situated diagonally, on the opposite side of the civic center, nook’s online website skirts each city with the built context and inexperienced metropolis axis/park linking West Lake with the Qiantang River.
The plane is arranged diagonally and crisscrossed figure-of-eight. Located at opposite corners, each tower includes a “city facade” framing the online web corner, and a horizontally articulated “panoramic facade” descending the internal squares at podium level.
